As a subscriber to SLO VEG produce boxes I have received many different options and choices of vegetables to use in my dinnertime meals like fennel. Adding fresh Fennel to your sautéed vegetables adds extreme aromatics to your home and leaves your family members begging for more. Rachel and I discussed product selection and themes and the use of rare vegetables like collard greens on the Provisions and Libations Podcast, Episode #12.
In regard to Collard Greens, I do not know how to prepare or serve them as I don’t normally choose this option when shopping for vegetables. By receiving them in my subscription box from SLO VEG allows me the opportunity to learn something new in the kitchen and step outside of my comfort zone. Other unique varieties are Romanesco by Babe Farms in Santa Maria, CA. Romanesco is a hybrid of broccoli and cauliflower with a nutty flavor that looks like a cactus with its spindly points. For Easter time the boxes will have Arugula and Easter Radish for holiday meal prepping with the family. Rachel takes her time to prepare each box for her customers using bright, colorful items, micro greens and relying on her 70/30 rule of 70% vegetables and 30% fruits.
