Seeing Stars

What we discussed at dinner has now evolved into a podcast about Michelin Stars and had me seeing stars with the entree, wine, and dessert during our Father’s Day celebration in 2024. This year was an exceptionally small celebration as my mom was not up to going out, and other family members worked and lived too far to join in the festivities.

Dining at a local favorite and my dad’s favorite, EMBER, in Arroyo Grande was truly a delight this past Sunday evening. We each had a cocktail to start the evening; my dad ordered a Tito’s on the Rocks, I ordered my usual French 75, and my sister ordered a specialty cocktail from the bar. Once our first course was finished, we switched to a bottle of red wine chosen by Tracy for the main course. Choosing a Grenache from the Cotes – Du – Rhone Villages in France was the perfect compliment to their Superior Farms Lamb & Spicy Pizza to my 50-Layer Lasagna. The wine shined the best with my dessert, a gourmet Smore with cocoa powder that left us all licking our forks and fighting for the last bite. The burnt marshmallow stood tall with the high sugar content of the Grenache. Tracy and I discussed the harvesting schedule as I detected the cotton candy finish of the wine once we paired it with dessert. She noted that the region of France had a longer hang time, so my theory sounded correct. Either way, the wine was the perfect choice for our evening dinner.
