Brewing

Brewing beer is quite simple comparatively speaking to wine and alcohol. There are fewer steps involved and only takes a few weeks to complete the entire process to bottling.

For home brewing five gallons there are six steps in the process to make beer in which include:

Steep grains in a cotton grain bag in a large brew kettle time will vary depending upon beer style until 170 degrees.  Remove grains allowing the water to drain from the grain bag.

Bring the kettle to a rolling boil and add malt extracts. Once the extract dissolves return the kettle to a boil.

Hops will be added in intervals to create the wort.  Cool quickly in an ice bath or use a wort chiller.

Pour the cooled wort into a glass carboy for fermentation, add water to bring levels to five gallons.  Aerate the wort to add oxygen to the yeast.  Pour dry yeast into the carboy.  Add a fermentation lock and store it in a cool dark place.  Fermentation takes about two weeks to complete.

Boil your priming sugar in 16 oz of water, cool, pour into the bottling bucket.  Siphon the beer out of your fermenter leaving the sediment behind.  Fill each bottle to the top of the bottle, cap the bottles with a capper.

Store bottled beer for two weeks at room temperature to allow time for carbonation. Refrigerate. Enjoy.
