Terroir

The combination of factors including soil, climate (warm or cool), and terrain (elevation and slope) that gives wine grapes their distinctive character also known as flavor and aroma. A vineyard soil relates to the composition of the earth directly related to fertility, drainage, and the ability to retain heat. The terrain or natural landscape of the vineyard such as mountains, valleys, and bodies of water directly correlates with how the climate relates to the region. Also included are other organisms living alongside the vines.
