The Best Fair Food

Robin, Esther and Victoria spending time in the carnival after sampling fair food.

So the main question is this; Ketchup or Mustard on your corn dog? Please email robin@eatdrinkandbemerry.online which condiment is your favorite choice.

Tim McGraw opening night at the county fair

Opening night at the Mid State Fair in Paso Robles was exciting, fun-filled, and full of sugar, spice, and everything nice. My friends, Esther, Victoria, and I attended the fair opening night to see Tim McGraw in concert as we had never seen him before. And let me tell you; he ROCKED IT. And I don’t mean a little bit; he ROCKED IT — all night. His opening song, “How bad do you want it,” let him know we wanted it bad. The venue was packed, ‘Standing Room Only,’ and everyone sang each song word for word. At times he didn’t sing but held his microphone out in the air and let us sing for him. He was ‘Humble and Kind,’ full of grace, and loved every minute of it. He felt the love of this crowd as he performed his eighth concert in the arena.

Sampling the best fair food

Before the concert started, my friends and I purchased our favorite fair foods and ate them with the intent to record a podcast live from the fairgrounds, and the findings from our tasting were interesting, to say the least. “Holy Hell, Batman,” according to Esther Gomes, regarding the Cinnamon Rolls, which were the standout winner between deep-fried Twinkies, funnel cake, and caramel corn. My favorite was the deep-fried Twinkie, which was their least favorite.

Once again, I am the unicorn doing my own thing!!

Taking a spin on the Ferris Wheel in the carnival at the county fair

We also rode a couple of rides before the concert. The Ferris Wheel is always a crowd favorite and doesn’t spin you upside down. The swings were our next choice as it was a light lift and swung around the park. I would have ridden the Himalayan ride, but they were too chicken because it revolved backward before you got off the ride. Once again, the unicorn!!

After the concert, we stopped by J & M Concessions set up in the Grandstand Arena to talk with Judy Hendbury about corn dogs and her career in the fair concessions. Surrounded by family working her concession stands, Judy admitted to eating a Polish Dog before the end of the fair as that has more flavor than a corn dog. Cheers to good fried food at the county fair!

In Conclusion

I have to admit; my belly was rumbling the day after. I sampled too many sweet things, which doesn’t agree with my system. But, in retrospect, I will do it all again because it was fun. What is your favorite food at the fair? Enjoy this link from the Mid-State Fair.
